Happy Birthday to my Mother!

March 7th = my mother's birthday :)

Normally, I take much more vivid pictures of my cupcake delights, but these cupcakes did not come out at all like I imagined they would. There was all sorts of problems with the icing and I was running out of ingredients left and right. It was a mess! But somehow I pulled together a little something so I was able to go through with my little cupcake surprise nonetheless! It's sad, though. I had much bigger plans for my mom's birthday last summer. Yes, last summer I was thinking of what I wanted to do for my mom's birthday. That might sound weird, but I worked as a cake decorator so I was often thinking of what kind of cakes I could design for my friends and family. I had big dreams of making my mother a lovely beach scene with a palm tree and all that jazz. Not only was that one of my specialties, but my mother loves palm trees. Unfortunately, that didn't exactly happen and I didn't have the tools or the money to do it on my own. But there's always next year! Although, next year she'll be living in California! Boo hoo!

Deliciosity

Delicious pumpkin pie cupcakes made from scratch!
I've made a lot of cupcakes and I've even made a lot of them from scratch in my time, but I think these are the best cupcakes I ever made. Don't get me wrong, I've liked the ones I've made in the past, but I pure loved these. Maybe it was the icing that sealed the deal. This was the first time I ever made my own icing as well as the cupcake itself and it was yum-yum yummers! I'm really happy with how they came out! Thanksgiving here we come!

This song explains why I'm leaving home

A few nights ago I did this, but tonight I feel it's appropriate to post. Today I went to the Lollipop Tree to see about getting a job being a cake decorator. Well, mostly just an extra hand during their busy season. It went well and they may call me if they need me, but it was like a trip down memory lane when I wrote down my name and phone number. When I was in Kindergarten, my first "boyfriend" was a boy by the name of Gabriel. His family owns the Lollipop Tree. Amazingly enough, she recognized my name and then we spent a little time talking about Gabe and how funny it was that I was in there asking for job now. Oh how funny life is. Things are really going full circle now.

He is Arisen!

Today is Easter. The day of resurrection. The birthday of the Holy Ghost. I don't know if that's correct to say that or not, but you get the idea. Today, a long, long time ago, Jesus decided to come back and hang for a lil' bit. That's probably not true either. Considering how inaccurate records are and how f-ed up our calendar is. So, scratch all that. Let's just go back to square one. Today is Easter. As if I haven't spent enough time with my extended family, I spent a little bit more time with them today. But this time at my cousin's house rather than my own. My cupcakes were big talk since when one of my uncles was over yesterday, he ate one pre-frosted. I didn't care, but the story of how it came to be was big news. It was told a few times. I'm not going to relay it here since it's not really that funny, but my cupcakes were quite a conversation piece. Despite the icing snafu, I was proud of them! I had to laugh when my aunt said, "I didn't know you were domestic"; this is probably the extent of it. But all in all I had a nice holiday. And for whatever reason, I'm totally beat. I didn't really do much, but I'm just beat. But here's a little doodle I did after dinner in John Lennon style. I think this would make a nice design for a business card or something. Probably put something on the back like, "This certifies that you had a personal encounter with me and that you found me warm, polite, intelligent, and funny." with my personal signature. Yeah, that sounds about right. ;)

He's the worst

Didn't have time to do any sketching today. If you can believe it, we had even more family over again today. Before they came over, I had to bake cupcakes for Easter dinner tomorrow. Unfortunately, we ran out of cupcake foils so I had to run out to get them. It was annoyingly busy out. And rainy. After I got back and finished up, I skipped town once again to escape family inflicted insanity. Came home to frost said cupcakes, though. I'm super annoyed, though. I read that if you want to make dark red frosting to use chocolate frosting instead of vanilla. So, I did. I used a lot of red food coloring. Is it red? No, not really. It's far from the actual chocolate color it originally was, but it doesn't look red. I don't know how much you actually have to use, but it must be a lot. I think they should have mentioned that. Maybe said, "Buy a whole lot of red food coloring and be prepared to kill your arm with the amount of stirring you're going to be doing."
