Summer Quarter 2010 - FIN!

Had my last class of Summer Quarter 2010 this evening. It was a great note to end the quarter on. My last class was Drawing & Anatomy which is taught by one of my favorite instructors, Bill Bahmermann. It was up in the air last week whether or not we would be drawing and when I finally arrived to class after being hit by a sudden tornado I found that we weren't going to be drawing and that our last class would just be a critique and final judgment of all of our work this quarter. I'm happy to report that I not only got an A on my final work, but got an A on everything we did the entire quarter. Furthermore, he told me that I make a lot of choices that other people don't make. That I choose good subjects, aesthetically pleasing views and focus on the right things whereas a majority of people just draw everything that they see. In the same vein, I don't shade things by shading in the entire form. As in, I'm not afraid to leave bits completely untouched. He said that some people spend their whole lives trying to figure out how to do what I do naturally. To make the right choices. I may not make very good choices in my personal life, but apparently I make some good ones somewhere! Thank Fuck! And finally he asked if I had ever been to any other art schools before this one and when I said I hadn't he said, "Good for you then." I was definitely a happy girl! I was really dragging through this quarter and definitely wasn't pleased with my finals so it was really nice to end with that. It was just what I needed to pick myself up out of the pity party I was throwing since I got a B on Tuesday. I don't often talk about my grades and what not in here or in general, but I thought this was worth mentioning. Furthermore, being that this is my blog, it was worth remembering later on. It feels great to be told by someone you greatly admire that you're doing something right and that you're basically in the right place. And with all that being said, I'm SO ready for my two week break! HALLELUJAH!!

FAME UGH

Hit up a huge label party hosted by Columbia Records with Jamie. It's nice to be honored for our incredible contribution to the music business. It's about time. After all we did back in '07-'09. I was really flattered to be featured in the Columbia Records display case. We also killed at "Cornhole". I'm not into that name. I think I'll rename it, "Throw the Washy" instead. So, Jamie and I played Throw the Washy and were undefeated. It got pretty boring slaughtering all these other artists at Throw the Washy so we ditched and hit up the hottest joint around; the Cheesecake Factory. And what happened there? They put a damn spotlight on me at my seat! I can't go anywhere without being recognized anymore! But Jamie was working hard so I would forgive her for knowing Paramore songs by buying me a drink and some cheesecake. It worked! We're finally friends again! Cheesecake solves all problems! Except lying. It doesn't make people stop lying.

Don't call it a comeback

Kick Drum Heart! from jenell o'boogie on Vimeo.

Alright. I said I quit making these, but I guess I'm back. Before I start school tomorrow, I sat down and finally got around to making this video. I try to do them every 3 months and I'm right on schedule with this baby! I'm going to do another one for my Disney trip later on cause that was a super special occasion that warrants a separate fun little thing! So... here's a musical montage of the last three months of my life. I hope you're able to enjoy it as much as I did! ;)

I got a pocketful of dreams

Took my first trip to Brooklyn and boy was it exciting. Unfortunately, most of the activities were highly illegal so I can't repeat them. As for the legal activities, we went on a picturesque train ride through the city right past the statue of Liberty's face. Then we saw Nathan's apartment which says his name on it real big and bold. You can't miss it. Stopped and saw some of the Monty Python guys before we went into Nate's place and rocked some jams. Afterward, we went back into the city and partied hard like Ke$ha til we worked up such a big appetite that we went and ate lavish dinners at the really fancy diner that Ke$ha owns. Appropriately named the Tick Tock Diner. So lush. I can't believe how much money we laid down for dinner! And if you're wondering why the Empire State Building is lit up in green... well... if I told you... I'd have to kill you.

It's Me Against Wachovia

When I heard that Britney was taking "Circus" on the road I pretty much resigned myself to the idea that I would not be able to attend. I was wrong. I've been blessed with a magical fairy that has bestowed tickets to see the show TWICE now. The first being up at the Meadowlands and now again in the not so friendly Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Both shows were tremendous! Although this one would have trumped the last if the Wachovia wasn't full of jerks and life wasn't trying to fuck up our night.
Traffic was terrible. Too many people trying to go to two different stadiums (Phillies game and Britney show respectively). It was pandemonium! We weren't too worried since there was supposed to be two opening acts. The show was scheduled to start at 7pm and we arrived only a little after 8pm. Well, apparently someone canceled and when we arrived I could hear Radar playing! So, we ditched our plans to get drinks and go to the bathroom and ran to our seats; which were AWESOME! It was a really awesomely, splendid good time. The pictures do no justice!

After the show ended way too soon, we attempted to get some souvenir cups. DENIED. Last time I attended the show, I was extremely poor and unemployed so I went home empty handed. This time I was determined to go home with a little something. Nothing crazy. Nothing over $10. So, we swam our way over to the merch stand and I spied a sweet poster. The line was ridiculous so we went around to see if any of the other stands were a bit less swarmed. All of the others didn't have any posters so we went back to the massive line. As we made our way up, I got the sinking feeling that they were going to sell out just before I got to the cashier. Unfortunately, my sinking feeling was absolutely dead on! The guy RIGHT in front of me got the last one! I was so gutted! But I was determined! I asked the cashier man if I could just have the display one. He said it was ripped. I said I didn't care. He said if I sold it to him, I might bring it back and complain and he'd get in trouble. I said I wouldn't do that. He said it wasn't for sale. I said I didn't want anything then. WHAT KIND OF SALESMAN IS HE?! A bad one. That's what. UGH. And thus, in the end, I was practically FORCED to take home a piece of trash and a bootleg shirt. I'm still kind of perplexed at the event staff and their opposition to selling to customers, but it was still a really fun night. Gets me super stoked to see Kylie in October!!

This photo has nothing to do with this paragraph

I suppose it's worth noting, I got a job. Just a little part-time thing at the Lollipop Tree (which is a custom cake and candy shop here in town). I had originally applied to be a cake decorator, but they gave the position to someone with cake decorating experience. Understandable. I only had cake eating experience. But then a few weeks later, they called me out of the blue and asked if I was interested in doing something else. Due to family illness, they need someone to help out with the candy making and other Lollipop Tree duties. So, I'm just coming in a few days a week for a few hours and doing that. It's not bad. We'll see how it goes. Oh lolli lolli

Raw sugar

I suppose this is my official announcement: I eat sushi. It's left the safety of tasting and trying with my mother and become something I can do on my own with my friends! It's pretty exciting! Look how excited Jamie is!

Note: Sushi must meet certain Jenell standards. There must be rice around the exterior. There must be cooked things on the inside. There must be sweet and sour sauce; must not be soy sauce. And sushi must be reasonable bite size. Thank you, carry on.

It's Britney, bitch

So, it happened. I didn't think that it would or that it could, but it did. Yep, you got it, Jamie actually succeeded in thinking of and pulling off a surprise. Well, sort of. Her own surprise of being able to do it caused her to give shit away along the way. My powers of deduction are strong, though. But I'd have to say that even though the thought of Britney Spears passed through my mind, I put it away! Who would ever guess that Jamie would randomly surprise me with tickets to see Britney Spears? Not I! But I'm glad that she did! Despite the fact that my car suffered a bit of a travesty at her hand, this was a seriously awesome way to make up for it. I don't know if I deserved quite that big of a gift, but it certainly did make up for the seriously terrible weekend I suffered last month. By a mile! And, one more thing, if anyone is questioning whether or not Britney is really back, I have some good news to report; SHE IS!

ps. THANKS SO MUCH JAMIE! I FORGIVE YOU NOW!
